Knitting Socks On Two Circular Needles

Knitting Socks On Two Circular Needles

You have many options to choose from when buying knitting needles. Not only do you have to decide what type you need, but also has to choose what type of material of the needles are made. Both decisions are influenced by what is going to knit and personal preference. To help, here is a brief description of these two factors.

Materials Used for needles:

Knitting needles are made from a variety of materials. The type of material used provides friction that influence how easy points come from the needle. Sometimes a needle that is harder is preferred so that the points are not accidentally fall off the needle, while other times the speed is important and a softer needle is necessary.

Wood: These needles have a roughened surface. They are lightweight and considered environmentally friendly because it is a renewable resource. Bamboo is a popular choice in the purchase of wooden needles. Bamboo is particularly respectful the environment, which can grow as fast as 3-4 feet in one day.

Metal needles are very soft metal. This allows the points easily slip stitches to a needle and another needle. Experienced knitters who want to complete your project very quickly prefer this type of needle. Metal needles are very durable and hard to break. Aluminum is the most common type of metal used for metal needles.

Plastic or acrylic: These needles are lightweight, flexible and inexpensive. They usually have a different color for each size of the needle enters, especially when they are sold in sets.

Types Needle:

There are three main types of needles: circular, double-pointed and straight. Each type of needle is used to produce different results, often called flat or circular. Creates flat woven items such as scarves, while circular or circular pieces creates seamless tubes. Some needles can produce only one type of result, while others may create several different types of results.

Circular: Circular needles have two needles at both ends with a flexible cable in the center. The cable is long, from 24 to 60 inches. The needles in the end are short, stiff and have sharp edges. They make it easy to add new stitches, while cable has stitches after being added. When knitting with circular needles, holding one end in each hand. The advantage of circular needle is that it can contain hundreds of stitches, the points he does not leave needles and flexible cable in the center can relax in the lap of the knitter, so the weight of the items is not felt. Circular needles can be used for flat or circular.

Double peak (DPN): The needles are short and straight, but both ends of the tapered needle. Stitches can be added from either end of the needle. Double pointed knitting needles are used for pipes, like socks and sleeves. When knitting with DPN, four to five needles are used simultaneously. A needle is used to add stitches, while another warehouse needles points of suture in place. A specialized type of DPN are cable needles, which seem DPN, but are shorter and have a dimple in the center of the needle.

Straight Needle: The needle is long and straight. There is a button or cap at one end, which prevents items from falling off the needle. At the other extreme, the needle is tapered, similar to a sewing needle, but is blunt rather than sharp. By weaving with straight needles, using two needles. Straight needles used for flat knitting, for example, scarves or shawls.

Knitting is a method by which thread or yarn may be turned into cloth. Knitting consists of loops called stitches pulled through each other. The active stitches are held on a needle until another loop can be passed through them. Knitting may be done by hand or by machine. By hand, there are numerous styles and methods. Flat knitting, which can be done on two straight needles or a circular needle, produces a length of cloth, while circular knitting, which is done on circular or doublepointed needles, produces a seamless tube. Different yarns and knitting needles may be used to achieve different end products by giving the final piece a different colour, texture, weight, or integrity. Using needles of varying sharpness and thickness as well as different varieties of yarn adds to the effect.
