You have many options to choose from when buying knitting needles. Not only do you have to decide what type you need, but also has to choose what type of material of the needles are made. Both decisions are influenced by what is going to knit and personal preference. To help, here is a brief description of these two factors.

Materials Used for needles:

Knitting needles are made from a variety of materials. The type of material used provides friction that influence how easy points come from the needle. Sometimes a needle that is harder is preferred so that the points are not accidentally fall off the needle, while other times the speed is important and a softer needle is necessary.

Wood: These needles have a roughened surface. They are lightweight and considered environmentally friendly because it is a renewable resource. Bamboo is a popular choice in the purchase of wooden needles. Bamboo is particularly respectful the environment, which can grow as fast as 3-4 feet in one day.

Metal needles are very soft metal. This allows the points easily slip stitches to a needle and another needle. Experienced knitters who want to complete your project very quickly prefer this type of needle. Metal needles are very durable and hard to break. Aluminum is the most common type of metal used for metal needles.

Plastic or acrylic: These needles are lightweight, flexible and inexpensive. They usually have a different color for each size of the needle enters, especially when they are sold in sets.

Types Needle:

There are three main types of needles: circular, double-pointed and straight. Each type of needle is used to produce different results, often called flat or circular.
