The programs of special summer camp have continued to grow in popularity each of the last few years. In fact, they are the fastest growing segment of entire summer camp industry. A "specialty" camp generally focuses on one or more activities related to the field (only the activities of beach and surfing, for example), compared to a traditional summer camp, which typically offers a more general program, with activities such as arts and crafts, horseback riding, the study of nature, sports and games, archery, and dance and theater, among others.

Specialty camps have historically appealed to "major" children (generally ages 10 to 12), because their lifestyle interests begin to take shape at this age and who are more interested in specialized fields of study or play as they grow. But in recent years, specialty camps are already over registration of preschool children whose parents may want to exposes them to more specific camp activities that remained in a traditional camp.

Like traditional camps, camps offer the specialty day or resident / summer camp experiences. (For day camps, children are usually brought to the camp every morning in a bus or truck, spend the day in camp, and then return home in the afternoon. In resident camps, children "live" in the field - typically in bunk beds, tents or cabins - up to several weeks at a time during the summer.)

There seems to be no limit to the specialty types available fields. If your child is interested in a specific area of interest, you can be sure that there is a field of specialty designed for them. For example, a recent Internet search revealed the following types of fields of specialization: the beach and surf camps, cooking camps, canoe camps, camps for children with special needs, weight loss camps, camps, football fields, sports in general, ski and snowboard camps, camps for children with cancer, baking camps, tennis courts, acting camps, academic, corporate camps, family camps and camps for twins, among others.

Where is the best place to begin your search for a field of specialty? I always suggest choosing an American Camp Association (ACA) accredited camp, regardless of the camp you choose. By choosing an accredited camp, you can be sure the camp meets or exceeds 300 industry standard best practice for child safety and supervision, transportation, program and schedule of activities, catering, and more.

The ACA maintains a free website where you can find a specialist field, criteria that are important to you, such as field type, location, gender, price and ages served.

Go to http://acacamps.com to start your search. Whether you are looking for a beach and surf camp in Los Angeles or a field kitchen in Wisconsin, the field of specialty you're looking to be right in the ACA website.
